1. The power of email marketing

Nearly $120,000 of my income last year was the direct result of using email autoresponders.

I've got a FREE 7 part email course put together that will tell you all about it. Sign up now by visiting:

http://www.silentsalesmachine.com/ar.html

You'll get seven short lessons and you don't have to spend a penny to put this system to use.

Stated simply, autoresponders are the email equivalent of a fax-on-demand system - only better! You can automatically respond 24X7 to incoming emails and give customers what they want in a personal targeted way that no other technology can.

And it's all simple to set up!

In the last issue of this newsletter I fired you up about growing your mailing list. Quite a few of the readers of this newsletter still have questions about 'autoresponders' though. I put together this free course for you to let you in on the insider secrets of autoresponder success.

Check it out free:

We love reader feedback (especially the happy feedback) :-)

Here's an unsolicited testimonial we got last week:

---------

Hi Jim,

To tell the truth, I haven't read an ezine this good in months. Most of my email is flooded with spam and I have just never had time to read any ezines at all. But today I was going through my emails and I came across your ezine and I started reading, It's G-R-E-A-T!! You have fantastic content and I will make sure to save all your future emails :) It's been so long since I signed up for this ezine, I think it was nearly a year ago. Anyway I'd like to say thanks to you for being one of the "good" ezine owners on the net! I will continue to read for as long as you continue to write ;)

Thanks again,
Daniel Schramm

P.S. I hardly ever find an ezine of this quality, keep it up!!

---------

Thanks Daniel - I'm blushing!!

My goal with this newsletter is to provide the tools, tips, and motivation to help others enjoy the "internet lifestyle" that I now enjoy. The highlights of my business life consists of working only when I want to, getting feedback like yours, making CRAZY money from various eBay and online ventures, and a bright financial future forecasted...it's a dream come true for this former corporate slave.

As a surprise gift for your unsolicited note I've sent you access to all back issues of my newsletter that you missed (shame on you). The archives go all the way back to Jan 2002.

Other readers can get access to these back issues as part of the bonus package that they automatically get with the purchase of my top selling book "The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on ebay" available only at http://www.silentsalesmachine.com.

Sorry for the shameless plug (Hey, This IS a free newsletter and my kids gotta eat right?!)

3. Selling eBooks on eBay - is it allowed?
=======================================================

Want the short answer? Yes, you are allowed to sell eBooks on eBay and deliver them electronically (via email or download).

There is a lot of confusion surrounding the specific eBay policy regarding the sale of eBooks or electronically delivered media on eBay. An unclear eBay policy is at fault.

I've long known the "true meaning" of the eBay "ebook" rule and have sold many ebooks on eBay while others have been hesitant because of the unclear eBay policy. A recent flood of inquiries from my newsletter readers has forced me to clarify the issue for us all once again though.

But, don't believe me...believe eBay!!

Here's a recent email I sent directly to eBay:

Original Message To Ebay Follows:

---------------------------------

I have a mailing list of about 51,000 ebay sellers and we have gotten a lot of inquiries about a specific issue that we could use your help clarifying.

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding your "Downloadable Media Policy" as it applies to eBooks.

Some very specific questions are being answered in more than one way on eBay user boards and by other half-informed ebay "experts". There is no clarification to be found in the current eBay policies the way they are written.

I am aware of the eBay policy regarding downloadable media found here:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/downloadable.html

This policy is unclear to many people though because it states bluntly at one point that, "a copy of a downloadable eBook may not be listed for sale (on eBay)."

The same policy a few lines later reads:

"If you are the copyright owner of the downloadable material that you are listing on eBay, make sure you say so in your listing (to be in compliance)."

Clarify please!

Question one:

If I have an original book that I've written that I want to sell on ebay as a downloable ebook, may I?

Question two:

If I have resell rights (that I can prove) may I sell an ebook that someone else wrote and deliver it as a download?

Finally, If I put the above items on a CD (without violating the media compilation rules) can I sell that CD on eBay?

Thanks for clearing this up.

Response From Ebay

Dated: 2/10/2004

Hello Jim,

Thanks for writing eBay.

eBay prohibits the electronic delivery of material (via email or download) unless the seller is the copyright owner of the material and clearly states that in the listing description. So if you are the copyright owner of something, and you state that in your listing's description then you can deliver the item electronically. If you just have resell rights, you may not deliver the product electronically. If you put the material on a cd and sell it, you may or may not sell it, depending on whether it violates someone's copyrights or not and whether it violates (any other) eBay policies. For more information about these (other) policies, please visit the following links:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/downloadable.html

4. Quick Tips

******QUICK**TIPS********

Hey newbie - Think you don't have anything to sell on eBay?

Sure you do!

Here in the U.S. there are several popular office supply stores that run weekly specials for popular easy to sell items that are completely free or nearly free. I added up the items in one Sunday paper and came up with over $480 worth of items that could be acquired for under $10 after all rebates. All items were available at three stores all of which are within 10 minutes drive from my house.

Is it worth my time to go on this "freebie" shopping spree? No- I don't have the time, but if you are new to eBay and looking for a way to get rolling this is a great low cost idea!

Visit these sites to see what I mean:

Office Max

http://www.officemax.com
-look for "weekly in store special" link
-Click on your state and city
-The front cover and last page of the weekly mailer almost always has items listed that are FREE after rebate

Office Depot
http://www.officedepot.com
-Find the advertised specials link
-Browse the current "weekly circular" for freebie offers

Staples
http://www.staples.com
-Click the "view a local circular" link
-browse the current circular for freebies

A free tool for eBook authors

I've written a lot in the past in this newsletter (and in my book found at SilentSalesMachine.com) about creating simple eBooks for resell on the Internet and eBay.

I contend (along with hundreds of other ebook authors) that the best way to create an ebook is to create your book in 'Word' or any other leading word processor and then convert the file into a PDF file so it can be read by anyone with a PC or MAC running nearly ANY operating system. It makes your book universally accessible. Your customers/readers need only to download a free copy of the PDF reader found at adobe.com and they are all set to read your book.

Last issue I listed some free PDF conversion tools for you to try out if you are creating an ebook. One of the readers of this newsletter submitted another PDF creating tool for us all to check out. Here's the email I got:

-------------

"There is an excellent free PDF converter at PDF995.com which I use all the time. It sits as a printer and you just print to it and it produces a PDF file it is great. I use it all the time from Word, Excel Access and Autocad with no problems.

Try it.

Regards
Mike Nellist"

--------------

Thanks Mike - I'm happy to pass on your tip!

One thing I really like about this tool is that it seems to have a lot of the features I recommend authors use (i.e. security to prevent PDF copies being easily made).
